Hey there!
Thanks for checking out my substack. If you’ve come for Sci-Fi content, interspersed with the ramblings of a 30-something as he struggles through the mammoth task of writing his first novel, you’ve come to the right place!
Who am I?
My name is Ross Bingham. I’m an amateur writer from Scotland, currently traveling around Europe in my big orange campervan.
A little background
About 1 year ago, I started writing a novel. Without much of a plan, I wrote a few chapters and promptly ran out of steam. It’s something I’ve always thought about doing but I’ve either not had the time, or the notion, or the stubbornness to do it. But now I do. I’m stubborn as hell.
Since setting out in the van, I’ve made a commitment to write 500 words per day. So, in around 5 or 6 months I should have a first draft manuscript. Merry Christmas, literary agents.
What is Authorised?
It’s two things.
First, it’s the first drafts of the chapters of the novel I’m writing, posted in sequence.
Second, it’s a blog-style account of my experience as a first-time novelist. I plan to share insights about my process as a writer, my struggles, my successes, and anything I’ve found useful along the way. After a point, it’s probably also going to include my experience of trying to get it published.
Third, it’s a place where I can publish short stories (and practice counting.)
My hope is that anyone who subscribes will get some enjoyment from my little sci-fi story, or get some value from what I talk about in between chapters.
